About the studio

Made by hand on the Warrego Highway

Three decades of casting concrete on the Warrego Highway — and a small team that still mixes every batch by hand.

In the early 1990s, Brian Collins started pouring concrete steppers under his mother's house — foot-shaped, one at a time, on the floor of a Queensland garage. The nursery trade liked them. Then someone asked for a bird bath. Then a fountain.

Twenty-something years on, the studio sits on the Warrego Highway at Hatton Vale, half an hour out of Brisbane. We've kept things small on purpose: a workshop, a yard full of moulds, a kiln of cured pieces ready to go. Every fountain, bird bath, planter and statue that leaves here is cast on site by someone whose name you can ask for on the phone.

We supply homes, gardens, nurseries and resorts from Rockhampton down to Coffs Harbour. About half of our customers walk into the showroom — the other half find us online, work out what they need over a phone call or two, and we deliver. Either way, you're talking to the people who made the thing.

What we make

Six families of pieces, all in reinforced concrete:

  • Fountains — single bowls right through to 4-tier Italian and Quarter Horse designs
  • Bird baths — Cambridge, square base, floral base, fluted leg
  • Statues — figures, animals, finials, classical and modern
  • Planters, pots, columns & plinths — for staging fountains or framing entries
  • Ponds — surrounds, bowls and liners for water gardens
  • Tables & seats — bench seats, leaf settings, garden coffee tables

Why concrete

Because it weathers. Concrete doesn't fade and it doesn't rust, and unlike resin or imported plastics it gains character as it ages. Sealed and looked after, a piece settles into the garden over the years — picks up a patina, takes on the sun, looks more at home than the day it arrived.

Come and see

The showroom on the Warrego Highway is open six days a week. Bring a tape measure if you've got somewhere in mind — we'll help you work out what size suits. If you'd like to see a fountain with water in it, ask in advance and we'll fill one.
